Fuel Surcharge (FSC)

A Fuel Surcharge (FSC) is an additional fee or surcharge applied by shipping companies, carriers, or logistics providers to offset the impact of fluctuating fuel prices on their operational costs. The cost of fuel, particularly marine bunker fuel or aviation fuel, is a significant expense for transportation companies. As fuel prices change, carriers may adjust their freight rates to reflect these variations in fuel costs by applying a fuel surcharge.  

The FSC is usually calculated as a percentage of the base freight rate and is subject to periodic updates based on fuel price fluctuations. The purpose of the fuel surcharge is to ensure that carriers can cover their fuel-related expenses while providing transparency to customers about the impact of fuel costs on shipping rates.
