The fuel (usually referring to marine fuel) stored onboard a ship for propulsion and operations.
What is a Bunker?
In shipping, the term “bunker” refers to the fuel used to power a vessel. It typically includes marine fuels such as heavy fuel oil (HFO), marine gas oil (MGO), or marine diesel oil (MDO). Bunkering is the process of refueling a ship with the required fuel for its journey. The quantity of fuel required for a voyage depends on the vessel’s size, distance to be traveled, speed, and operational requirements. Bunkering operations are critical for the smooth functioning of the shipping industry, and vessels may take on fuel at ports, offshore bunkering facilities, or dedicated bunkering stations.
