Automated Commercial System (ACS)

Tags: Glossary

A legacy system used by U.S. Customs and Border Protection to manage the electronic exchange of data related to international trade.

What is Automated Commercial System (ACS)?

The Automated Commercial System (ACS) was a legacy electronic system developed by the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agency to facilitate the processing of commercial trade transactions. It was in use prior to the development of the modernized Automated Commercial Environment (ACE) system, which replaced ACS.

ACS was used to process a variety of trade-related documentation, such as customs declarations, entry summaries, and other forms required for the clearance of goods into and out of the United States. It allowed importers, exporters, and their agents to electronically file and transmit these documents to CBP, reducing the amount of paperwork and manual processing required for customs clearance
