Airline Terminal Fee

Fee for using airline or airport terminal facilities.

What is Airline Terminal Fee and how is it calculated?

Airline Terminal Fee in the logistics and supply chain industry refers to a charge imposed by airlines or airports for using their terminal facilities or services. It is typically applicable to air cargo shipments and covers the costs associated with handling, storage, security, and other services provided at the airline’s or airport’s terminal.

The calculation of the airline terminal fee can vary depending on several factors, including:

  • Weight or Volume: The fee may be calculated based on the weight or volume of the cargo being transported. Airlines or airports may have predefined rates per kilogram (kg) or cubic meter (m³) to determine the charges.
  • Charge per Unit: The fee may be calculated based on a fixed charge per unit of cargo. This could be a specific fee per piece, per pallet, or per container, depending on the airline’s or airport’s pricing structure.
  • Value of Goods: In some cases, the fee may be calculated based on the value of the goods being transported. This approach is more common for high-value cargo, where the terminal fee is a percentage of the declared value.
  • Specific Services: The fee calculation may also consider specific services provided by the airline or airport. For example, if additional services such as specialized handling, perishable goods storage, or hazardous materials handling are required, additional charges may apply.
