Gas Free Certification

A Gas Free Certification Survey is a crucial safety procedure conducted in the maritime and petrochemical industries, particularly aboard vessels or in facilities where hazardous gases or chemicals are handled, stored, or transported. This survey is designed to verify that a confined space, such as a tank, cargo hold, or storage area, is free of potentially explosive or toxic gases, fumes, or residues, ensuring a safe environment for workers and preventing accidents or catastrophic incidents. 

Conducting a Gas Free Certification Survey is mandated by international safety regulations, including the International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) standards and local regulations in various countries. These regulations aim to protect the safety and health of workers, the environment, and assets. The survey primarily focuses on confined spaces, which are areas not designed for continuous human occupancy.  

Examples include cargo tanks, ballast tanks, engine rooms, and fuel storage compartments on ships or storage tanks in chemical plants.
