Air Transport Association of America: History and Legacy

The Air Transport Association of America, often abbreviated as ATA, was a prominent trade association that represented the interests of major U.S. airlines and commercial aviation companies. 

ATA was founded in 1936 as a trade association for U.S. airlines. It played a pivotal role in advocating for the interests of the aviation Industry, including issues related to regulation, safety, security, and economic policy. ATA represented a diverse group of member airlines, including major legacy carriers, low-cost carriers, cargo airlines, and regional airlines. These member airlines collectively transport millions of passengers and tons of cargo each year. 

 

In 2016, ATA merged with A4A, another leading aviation industry group. The merger aimed to streamline industry advocacy efforts and create a more unified voice for U.S. airlines.
