What does Forty-foot Equivalent Unit (FEU) mean?

The Forty-foot Equivalent Unit (FEU) is a standard measurement used in the shipping industry to quantify the cargo-carrying capacity of containers. It represents a 40-foot-long shipping container, which is one of the standard sizes used in containerized shipping. The FEU is a convenient way to compare the capacity of different container sizes. For example, a 20-foot container is referred to as a Twenty-foot Equivalent Unit (TEU), and its capacity is half of an FEU.

Shipping rates, charges, and vessel capacities are often quoted in terms of FEUs to provide a uniform basis for pricing and planning in the maritime transportation industry.
