Unclean Bill of Lading

Tags: Glossary

A bill of lading that notes damage or irregularities to the goods being shipped.

What is an Unclean Bill of Lading?

An unclean bill of lading is a document issued by a carrier or shipping company that acknowledges the receipt of goods for shipment but contains a notation indicating that the goods were received in a damaged or unsatisfactory condition or were not properly packaged or labeled.

An unclean bill of lading can create problems for the shipper, as it may limit their ability to collect damages or compensation for any loss or damage that occurs during shipment.
