Any-Quantity Rate
Tags: Glossary
A freight rate that applies to any quantity of goods, without regard to other factors.
What is Any-Quantity Rate and How is it calculated?
In shipping, a quantity rate typically refers to the amount of cargo being transported per unit of a particular measurement, such as weight or volume. The quantity rate is used to calculate the cost of shipping based on the amount of cargo being transported.
The quantity rate in shipping can vary depending on the type of cargo, the mode of transportation, and the distance being traveled. For example, in air cargo shipping, the quantity rate may be measured in weight, such as dollars per pound or euros per kilogram. In ocean shipping, the quantity rate may be measured in volume, such as dollars per cubic meter or euros per cubic foot.
To calculate the quantity rate in shipping, you divide the cost of shipping by the amount of cargo being transported. For example, if the cost of shipping 1000 pounds of cargo by air is $500, the quantity rate would be $0.50 per pound ($500 divided by 1000 pounds). Similarly, if the cost of shipping 100 cubic meters of cargo by sea is €5000, the quantity rate would be €50 per cubic meter (€5000 divided by 100 cubic meters).
