What is Volumetric Weight?

Volumetric weight, also known as dimensional weight, is a method used by carriers and shipping companies to calculate the cost of shipping a package. It is based on the amount of space that the package will take up on an aircraft, truck, or other vehicle, as opposed to its actual weight.

The volumetric weight is calculated by multiplying the length, width, and height of the package and dividing the result by a carrier’s volumetric divisor. The higher of either the package’s actual weight or volumetric weight will be used by the carrier to determine the cost of shipping.
